LayerZero Power Systems Improves Safety With Series 70 ePODs™: Type-X Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
Chagrin Falls, Ohio (December 1, 2009) LayerZero Power Systems, Inc. has announced the release of the Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X product line, free-standing Power Distribution Units (PDUs) that are designed to provide a high level of flexibility for IT data center power infrastructures. The Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X is designed so that data centers can safely add power distribution capacity as needed, while increasing overall reliability with deployment.
The Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X is a PDU that is designed to maximize system availability, providing a high-reliability power distribution foundation for operations that require uninterrupted electrical power. The Type-X brings distribution closer to the load, making installations easier, simplifying cabling organization, and ensuring that IT systems have clean, reliable power so that mission-critical systems are continuously available.
The design of the Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X is inspired by NFPA-70E, with an emphasis on operator safety. The SafePanel™ distribution panel utilizes an original design that encloses the copper bus in the connection well before contact is made, containing the energy in the well, and protecting operators. In addition, the circuit breakers incorporate a safety feature that only allows the breakers to be disengaged when the unit is in the off position, eliminating the possibility of the creation of an arc during removal. The Type-X units also incorporate InSight™ Portholes, allowing operators to safely IR scan all bolted connections with the dead-front closed.
The Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X incorporates a variety of power monitoring configurations, providing data center professionals with the capability to fully manage equipment off-site. The power monitor measures revenue-quality information of every pole of each branch, so that abnormalities can be quickly and accurately diagnosed. LayerZero Waveform Capture Technology records a time-stamped image three cycles before and after all events, providing a sequential history of the power that can be easily accessed remotely. In addition, the ePODs™: Type-X allows users to configure alarms for custom set points, so that alarms are automatically sent when a values go out of a specified range.
Extended connectivity in the units include Modbus/TCP, SNMP, http through a standard web-browser, NTP Network Time Synchronization, and the ability to connect with dry contacts. Designed to work well with System Management Software, LayerZero Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X units work well with open protocols, and make it easy to share power data.
A representative from LayerZero Power Systems stated, "We are very pleased to release the ePODs™: Type-X, the safest high-voltage PDU on the market. These units simplify installations while providing rock-solid reliability, ideal for fully fault-tolerant power infrastructures that require maximum uptime and 24x7 access. LayerZero has consistently demonstrated its commitment towards decreasing electrical hazards in the workplace, and the protective safety features in the Type-X exemplifies this effort".
LayerZero stated that they will begin shipping Series 70: ePODs™: Type-X units in January 2010.
