Static Transfer Switches

Static Transfer SwitchLayerZero Static Transfer Switches are the most robust and reliable Static Transfer systems available, transferring power between two sources in less than a quarter electrical cycle.

LayerZero Static Transfer Switch products are power transfer switches designed to transfer power between multiple sources without interrupting the critical load. Designed for applications for mission-critical requirements, LayerZero Static Transfer Switches enabled with Triple Modular Redundancy provide reliability that is 10x higher than alternative products.

LayerZero Static Transfer Switches have a patented technology that automatically compensates for differences in phases between sources, eliminating downstream transformer inrush from out-of-phase transfers.  LayerZero Static Transfer Switches are equipped with InSight™ IR Portholes for safe thermal scanning, a touch screen interface, waveform capture, a voice guided bypass procedure, and optional Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR).

The Series 70: eSTS Static Transfer Switch is designed with Triple Modular Redundant architecture, so that a failure of any component on any board will not compromise the critical load. Every logical machine segment of the eSTS Static Transfer Switch is powered with triple redundant power supplies and signals via fiber optic connectors.

The Series 70: eSTS Static Transfer Switch communicates with Open Systems, and is able to connect to monitoring software without investing in proprietary technology. Information can be accessed locally on the 15" touch screen, or remotely utilizing open protocols. Designed for critical IT applications, LayerZero Static Transfer Switches provides power redundancy, maximizing uptime and network availability.

LayerZero Static Transfer Switch products:

The LayerZero Series 70 eSTS is a standalone Static Transfer Switch in a cabinet. Series 70 ePODs are hybrid Static Transfer Switches and transformers. Providing an automatic and seamless transfer of the critical load, LayerZero Static Transfer Switches keep the power in critical data processing operations always-on.

What is a Static Transfer Switch?

A Static Transfer Switch (eSTS) is able to select between two sources of power, and helps ensure maximum reliability in critical operations. LayerZero Static Transfer Switch products utilize solid-state puck-style SCR semiconductors, SCR signaling gate drives, and processing control boards with built in Power Quality Analyzers.

LayerZero TMR-Enabled Static Transfer Switches utilize independent system identification and control strategies, each identifying and controlling the same process. A voting mechanism monitors each signal, and majority vote determines the outcome.

Normally all systems agree. If one of the three control systems disagrees with the other two, it is out-voted, and the disagreement can be monitored and flagged. If the root-cause of the disagreement is eliminated; then reliability level increases further through "renewal" process. Such designs can increase total system reliability by orders of magnitude. LayerZero Static Transfer Switch products are 10x more reliable than other products when enabled with TMR.

In a Static Transfer Switch, one source is selected as the preferred source, and the critical load is normally powered by the preferred source. A Static Transfer Switch schematic diagram of Source 1 power is shown below.

If Source 1 fails, the system transfers to Source 2. Nominally, the total transfer time of a LayerZero Static Transfer Switch is ¼ electrical cycle. The critical load continues to be powered without interruption. A Static Transfer Switch schematic diagram of Source 2 power is shown below.
