Innovative Bypass Mechanisms

The bypass procedure employs a unique safe measure to improve operator safety. Mechanisms have been built into the equipment to ensure that the procedure itself can only be completed in a correct sequence.

A mechanical "double goalpost" constrains the operator's behavior so that breakers can only be moved in a sequence that will protect the operator from error and maintain the load.

In addition, the 15" touch-screen graphical user interface (GUI) guides the user step-by-step through the bypass procedure.

The GUI contains written instructions, videos of the procedure, and audio instructions for each step. If any of the steps are completed out of sequence, the software lets the operator immediately know that the procedure is incorrect.
